Always ask questions and get to know people around your desk, it's great networking and they're most likely willing to help you out and share what they are working on.

This was my first experience in any kind of Supply Chain-related role, which allowed me to learn a lot throughout the entire summer. My assignment leader challenged me with a variety of projects that helped me to grow and develop as an Intern.

Don't be afraid to ask "why." It is important to not only know how to do the work you are assigned, but also why you are doing it, and how it affects the success of the company.

What I liked
I enjoyed my hands-on work with aircraft engine components to evaluate the strength of repair processes. I gave recommendations based of metallurgical analyses, which added to my overall material engineering experience.
What I wish was different
The pace of work was somewhat slow, as I worked in the defense division.
Advice
Put yourself out there and advertise your skill set in the workplace. Make sure to find meaningful work if you feel poorly utilized.

Supply Chain Intern

What I liked
The team I worked on was amazing, and there wasn't a day where we didn't share a laugh or felt like I wasn't included in the group. I was immediately given projects to work on, and after a while I was given the option to explore my interests and work on project that were meaningful to me.
What I wish was different
I wish I was able to work with other interns across the different departments. GE is a fantastic company but its rigid organizational structure often caused a lot of inefficiencies which slowed my ability to complete projects quickly.
Advice
Be open to every experience, and always stay positive and enthusiastic. It is surprising how far just that will take you. Once you get a reputation for having a good skill set, and always being positive. New and exciting jobs find you. You may have jobs that push your comfort zone, but go for it, you will be rewarded.

Good pay, housing stipend was provided, interesting project that allowed me to use my knowledge from class in a corporate setting.
What I wish was different
You can only indicate location preference when you accept the offer and don't know where you'll be placed for the summer until the March right before. So in a sense it's kind of a jeopardy since you won't know where you'll be working or what you'll be working on until several months after you've accepted the offer.
Advice
If you need an extension on a return offer, ask them immediately. GE Aviation requires that students respond really early for return offers (mid-September), so just be aware of that in case you need more time to scope out other companies before making a summer commitment.

What I liked
I learned a lot about manufacturing and supply chain from a management and from an engineering perspective. I was treated with respect by my peers and challenged by my mentors but still had a lot of freedom to explore what interested me outside of the work I was assigned.
What I wish was different
I wish I had asked more questions to get a clearer idea of how everything worked.
Advice
Don’t be afraid to seek out professional internships as an underclassmen! Certain companies, like GE, are eager to hire freshmen and sophomores. It’s a great way to get your foot in the door and see what you might be interested in career-wise.

What I liked
I loved being able to take time off of school to work. I loved my coworkers and the experiences that I had while working. I also met lots of fun interns who were there and we were able to go on lots of fun trips on weekends and after work.
