I didn’t have that much experience before getting this job and I’ve learned a ton while being here (I manage Linux servers and didn’t know anything about Linux before), so don’t be afraid to apply for something that sounds out of your comfort zone

Especially For Youth Counselor

What I liked
I loved that I was able to work with youth all summer and teach them more about faith. It was so fun to be able to party with them and then go straight into a more spiritual side application!
What I wish was different
I honestly can’t think of anything I would do differently. It was exhausting, but all the hours that I put in are necessary in order for things to go smoothly and to provide the youth the best experience they can have.
Advice
The counselors that work at this camp (since it is a more faith based camp), are required to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in order to teach the kids more effectively. So I highly recommend everyone that is a member of that church to look more into this job, especially if you enjoy hanging out with kids! It’s honestly a life changing experience!

What I liked
Well structured, well mentored position. Feedback available almost any time you need it. Supervisors are always super available, even during off hours.
What I wish was different
I wish there was a little more "teaching" involved; not just answers when you had questions, but proactive (perhaps on some regular schedule, e.g. weekly) attempts to present new information relevant to the field in which we do research.
Advice
This is a great opportunity to experiment and learn about a potential emphasis or field; however, know that your mentor will likely not want you job hopping or leaving right after becoming useful.
