Working weekend shifts would have been okay once in a while, but I worked almost every weekend all summer long. I also didn’t love working until 9:30 some nights.

Patience in the most important a person can have working retail.

What I liked
I enjoyed collecting data and being in the field most of every day. I also love the fact that my research will help a Nebraska at-risk species. It was amazing to be able to work in the field, quite literally, as I was working on the prairie.
What I wish was different
I wish I would have had more prior knowledge on soil and plants to aid in researching.
Advice
The Cabela's Apprenticeship is a great experience and you can do a number of different studies for them related to conservation. Apply early and do you best to stick to your preset deadlines.

I enjoyed the people I was working with. Everyone was very friendly and willing to help out as a team.
What I wish was different
I wish there was more communication between managers and regular workers. Miscommunication occurred often because Bass Pro is such a large store, I just wish employees were told what was going on.
Advice
It is a very nice job and is great for getting into customer service. You are able to interact with many types of people at this job and could help with someone's ultimate career goal if they are wanting to work with people.

There's not much room to move up as far as raises go, so if you're in it for the money, not the best place to go. But as a job to get you by, that won't be too hard, and have some fun people to get to know, then go for it.

Easy job, just do what you're told, be friendly, and have fun with it and your co-workers.

I like being able to read people's needs and provide them with what they came looking for, or what they didn't know they needed.

I wish that the schedules were easier to get a hold of so that there are no surprises for anyone, including the managers.
Advice
People are business. If you aren't a people person, business will be tough. Dealing with customers shows you all sorts of people and I believe working on the front lines of a business like that is extremely crucial in understanding different people and different ways to work with them.

It is a good working environment. The job is easy enough and it is a good way to spend a summer and building good relationships with coworkers and upper management. They are all willing to write recommendation letter if I were to need one.
What I wish was different
I wish that the shifts were a little more even, but I also understand this is a retail job and the managers have to work around everyone's availability.
Advice
One piece of advice is to make sure you have good shoes so that your feet don't hurt at the end of the day.
