State tested nursing assistant
June 2019 • Canal Winchester, OH
What I liked
I liked that I was able to learn healthcare-related tasks. They also provided free classes and state testing. Most of the people there were really nice and supportive. It was a fast-paced job which is what I liked. It is a very independent job in which I had a lot of responsibility. I also really enjoyed taking care of and getting to know the residents of the long-term care facility.
What I wish was different
I wish initial instructions would be more clear. I was just kind of thrown in with minimal training. They have a training program in which I would shadow other STNA's but half of the time I was left alone doing other tasks that I had never done before.
Advice
The job is really fast-paced and you will constantly be on your feet. It is a rewarding job, but it is very labor-intensive and can be draining. Keep a positive attitude and you will be just fine :)
