Graphic Design Intern

What I liked

I got the opportunity to work closely with the Creative Director of the company, assisting her in large projects for each individual sector of the company (A&D Inspection, A&D Medical, and A&D Weighing). In addition, I was able to coordinate with the individual managers of each sector and work on a wide array of projects, from product packaging designs, to brochure layouts, to product campaign launches. The internship introduced the corporate world and allowed me to focus on my design abilities and expand on communication.

What I wish was different

I am A&D's first ever intern, pioneering the program for the future. I definitely would have liked to be able to have other interns around in order to collaborate and simply have other introductory students to share experiences with.

Advice

There were projects everyday, so you need to be organized, detail oriented, and open to criticism of your designs.

What I liked

Everyday is a challenge and the management team is extremely supportive of personal growth opportunities. I have learned so much and been given enough responsibility that I feel confident in my position.

What I wish was different

Nothing. I got the offer when I was expecting and everyone in the company is wonderful to work with.

Advice

Find a job that challenges you to learn new skills with a management team that supports your decisions.

Application Engineer Co-Op

What I liked

The workplace and the people are excellent. The diversity of the work was a lot of fun and provided a great challenge to figure out and better myself through each day. The location is really great and is near a lot of great housing options, food places, shopping, and near downtown Ann Arbor and a great night life.

What I wish was different

The projects I was working on had a tendency to have significant downtime due to the nature of the projects, but this gave me time to do extra research on related topics, ask important questions about other projects to become more familiar, and it even allowed me to enjoy the projects more as I had a longer time having a hand in their development.

Advice

Be open to the variety of the work and be ready to shift gears between mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering work. Also, don't be afraid to ask for help, share your input, and find extra little projects to get involved with.
