SOAR Data Analyst Assistant

Qualifications

  • Outgoing and cheerful personality that enjoys conversing with UVA students
  • Must be able to communicate and maintain professional relationships effectively with team members and clients
  • Fulfill scheduled tasks/projects in a timely manner by meeting tight deadlines
  • Maintain scheduled office hours and contribute 10 or more hours per week
  • Proficient in Macintosh and PC computers and software
  • Profound attention to detail
  • Must have creative problem solving abilities using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

Job Purpose

The SOAR student assistant is primarily responsible for data analysis, the creation of graphs and visualizations, and enhancement of a web interface that will be used to share outcomes with external stakeholders. Key skills that the student assistant may need to demonstrate are data analysis, the collection and understanding of user needs/use cases for an interactive reporting dashboard, and the development of compelling Tableau visualizations that show insights into the UVA post-grad story. The SOAR Data Analyst will have the opportunity to craft their own research project in addition to developing and maintaining the standard visualizations for the office. Experience with the following are preferred: Excel, Tableau, and Drupal.   In addition, the student assistant will help with the promotion of the Student Outcome Activity Report throughout the school year as needed. This might include student outreach, CIO engagement, and distributing marketing materials.  

Duties

  • Analyze outcome data to identify and present outcome trends and findings
  • Develop standard graphs and visualizations based on reporting requests from University Departments and external stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain a Tableau dashboard that interfaces with the Career Center’s Drupal website to reflect UVA outcome findings at a regular frequency
  • Provide information to UVA students about SOAR using emails, social media, and in-person events
