Employer Relations Student Assistant

Employment Start/End Dates: No earlier than 8/17/23 and no later than 5/10/2024

Responsibilities include assisting with special event planning, program preparation, and advertising of recruitment events, including UVA career fairs (both in-person and virtual) as well as supporting On-Grounds Interviewing (OGI). The Employer Relations Student Assistant will be responsible for conducting research for specific projects, and maintaining accurate records of employer interactions in the Handshake recruitment management system.

The Employer Relations Student Assistant will learn about recruitment and employer services, programs, customer service, public relations, and ways to build and strengthen relationships with employers. Examples of typical duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Communicating with employers/recruiters about career events, including fairs, in person, via telephone, or through e-mail
  • Assisting with advertising efforts and organizing various materials for upcoming career fairs/events
  • The Employer Relations Student Assistant may also act as a liaison between the Employer Relations team, employers, and student groups in conveying information about organizations recruiting at UVA.
  • Greeting employers participating in OGI; cover employer and student check-in process as needed in 4th floor suites (Scott Stadium)
  • Helping with closing down interview suites (late afternoon shift) on occasion.
  • Processing job approvals in Handshake platform: approve eligible jobs and internships submitted by employers in Handshake
  • Other duties and projects as assigned

Qualifications 
Position is up to 10 hours per week to be scheduled within the time frame of 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday, with occasional evening hours; flexible with class schedule.
  • Independent, self-motivated and creative student required
  • Professional-level communication skills essential in order to represent the office and the University to the public
  • A positive attitude, initiative, and willingness to learn new skills are crucial
  • Strong written, oral, and computer skills are extremely beneficial
  • Excel and data analysis skills are a plus!
  • Student must be highly detail-oriented, have strong organizational and time management skills
  • Punctual and highly reliable
