Internship Accelerator – 8 Week – VAFF Patron Engagement Project

This internship is part of the Hoos Internship Accelerator and the position is funded by UVA. As part of this program, the UVA Career Center has planned a professional development series to support you during your experience. Students participating in the internships are required to engage in a 3-part professional development series that includes a pre-internship orientation, mid-summer networking reception, and a post-internship professional development workshop. Additionally, students will be required to participate in a pre and post assessment. Funding information is included below: 

  • Internship: 8 weeks (funded at $2000 to support living expenses) *We estimate the projects will typically run ~20-25 hours/week
  • Internship: 4 weeks (funded at $1000 to support living expenses) *We estimate the projects will typically run ~20-25 hours/week

Students who qualify who qualify for need-based financial aid from student financial services are eligible for additional funding. To receive these funds students must accept a Hoos Accelerator internship offer. Funds are limited.  

  • Supplemental Need-Based Financial Aid: 8-week experience (funded at $2000 to support living expenses)  
  • Supplemental Need-Based Financial Aid: 4-week experience (funded at $1000 to support living expenses)  

Students who qualify for need-based financial aid may submit their request for supplemental funded using this form. If you are qualified for additional need-based financial aid and you accept an offer from a company participating in the Hoos Internship Accelerator, you will receive supplemental funding based on the duration of your internship. Please note that only UVA funded internships are eligible, and funds are limited.  

Important: Students are eligible to apply to up to 10 internships in the pool (per application round) and are only permitted to participate in one experience during the Summer 2021.  

Interviews will be conducted between May 18th–28th. Offer letters will be sent to students no later than Friday, June 4th – students should respond to offers by Wednesday, June 9th.

Project Title: Virginia Film Festival’s Patron Engagement Project

Position Description: The VAFF’s Patron Engagement Project Intern will create digital marketing strategies and content aimed at engaging current VA Film Festival donors, sponsors, patrons as well as attracting new prospects. This position will work with the VAFF’s Development Officer and Outreach Coordinator over the summer months to develop strategies and plans for engaging and attracting new donors, sponsors, and patrons around this upcoming Virginia Film Festival, to be held October 27-31, 2021. This is a dual research and implementation position, where the incumbent will both develop the plans for a digital marketing campaign to be implemented August through October leading up to the Film Festival as well as create and implement pre-season content during the internship across digital channels.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Research and create digital and social media strategies for increased engagement and expanded reach across the VAFF’s social media channels, website, and other digital resources.
- Research new ways to acknowledge and steward of current patrons, donors, and sponsors.
- Support annual fundraising appeal to VAFF donors and patrons.
- Create original content such as promotional copy, graphic elements, videos, etc for social media platforms, email campaigns, websites, e-newsletters, etc.
- Support design and testing of user experiences/interfaces as well as digital marketing templates for future use.
- Use analytic tools to collect, record, and analyze data to measure success of campaigns
- Draft systems for planning, tracking, and monitoring digital campaigns.
- Gain exposure to Virginia Film Festival and UVA Arts leadership.
- Present final outcomes and deliverables to VAFF staff.

Qualifications: Experience creating social media content, familiarity with analytics tools and assessing data, video editing skills, graphic design skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, and an affinity for UVA Arts and the film industry.

Total Project Hours: 15 hours/week - 120 hours total
