GIS Analyst/ Programmer Intern: African Parks

Position Summary

Are you passionate about endangered wildlife? Do you
have skills in GIS and Machine Learning? People selected
for this position will work with African Parks to support
general management by providing strategic analysis of
wildlife crime along with operational support. Interns will
collect geospatial data by identifying and monitoring
areas of interest in order to develop and train a machine
learning algorithm. The interns must have a strong and
consistent work ethic and desire to work on a team.

Responsibilities:
• Implementing classical machine learning algorithms
(clustering and classification)
• Coding and updating in compliance with data
development and processing.
• Produce cross-tabulations and conduct basic statistical
analyses of datasets
• Work with a team to learn and further develop your
technical and investigative skills

Required Qualifications:
• Skill in application programming; especially GIS
programming (i.e., Python, JavaScript)
• Capacity to learn new data collection skills quickly
• Strong skills in statistics and probability
• Familiarity with data science and data visualization
• Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Computer
Science or a related field
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Intelligence Management experience (collection and
analysis)

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with automation collection
• Credentials in Geographic Information Systems, Data
Analysis, or related experience
• Familiarity with geospatial data management tools,
geoprocessing algorithms, and geostatistical analysis
