EY

Financial Assurance Intern

June - July 2018 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

I was assigned work that I would get if I was a staff so I got to see how it would be like if I started full time. Everyone was really nice and always willing to help explain a concept if I had any question. I feel prepared entering full time because I was trained well so I know most of the resources that EY offers.

What I wish was different

I wish I had networked with more people

Advice

Talk to as many professionals as you can

FSO Launch Intern

June - August 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

What I wish was different

Advice

Take advantage of all networking opportunities while interning. I attempted to grab coffee at least twice a week with someone at the firm and it helped me get assigned to multiple different projects and opportunities during the summer. I also will be returning to a huge network when I return for my next internship.

Intern

June - August 2018 • New Delhi, Delhi

What I liked

The mentors were very helpful and flexible with the tasks they assigned. They gave me freedom to decide the type of research and work I would be interested in, and then gave me the tools and knowledge to help with that.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more responsibility around the workplace.

Advice

Always ask the mentors for extra work. Underpromise and overdeliver. Be willing to ask questions and volunteer to put in extra effort.

Accounting internship

July - August 2018 • Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam

What I liked

I love the people who I worked with and how much I learned from this experience. I also liked the work environment that I was in. Even though I was a first- year student, people treated me like a real employee. They challenged me with new tasks every day. I got a chance to learn things that I have not learned in school.

What I wish was different

I wish my internship was longer so I could learn more. Since I was only a first-year student, I did not get paid for the internship but it would be great if I did.

Advice

Be confident and ready to network with as many people as possible. Have an open mind to learn new things and don't be scared to make mistakes but also learn from your mistakes.

Tax Intern

June - August 2018 • Hoboken, NJ

What I liked

The people I worked with, the internship program activities, the work culture and the location.

What I wish was different

Being this a 8 week internship, I wish it was longer. Considering training week, the July 4th week, and the International Leadership Conference at the end, the weeks of actual work are only 5 and since I enjoyed my time working I wish there were a couple more weeks to keep learning about my work responsibilities.

Advice

EY really puts a lot of effort to give you an unforgettable internship experience. From the training in Chicago to your daily work responsibilities to your co-interns and the last week at the International Leadership Conference at Disney, there is a lot to learn and amazing people to meet. Your only job is to be proactive and demonstrate a genuine interest for what you do. Whether you want to stay with the firm or follow a different path, the experience will be one to remember. Form connections, learn about the industry and have fun.

IT Risk Advisory Intern

June - August 2018 • Boston, MA

What I liked

Great professional development workshops and opportunities to meet people. Lots of client interaction.

What I wish was different

My team was very difficult to work with. Gave very technical explanations when describing tasks and did not have much tolerance for mistakes or asking questions. They were very unfriendly and excluded me from client visits.

Advice

Take very detailed notes and make sure you know how to do the task from start to finish before you start it. Don't trust anyone.

Audit Intern

June - August 2018 • Berlin, Germany

What I liked

I loved participating in the EY Intern Global Student Experience program where I got to participate in an audit practice in the US and also in Germany.

What I wish was different

I wish I spent more time getting to know my team in the U.S., it seemed very reserved and I wasn't able to feel completely comfortable with the entire team by the end.

Advice

Be prepared to stay longer hours at time, and know that each team has very different kinds of cultures and experiences. One team may be very reserved and quiet, while the other teams might like to go out and have lunch together everyday.

Accountant Intern

June - August 2018 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

The learning curve was huge. I worked on seven different clients in three different industries. I was able to gain experience in the assurance practice.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have asked about working full-time after the internship, while in school.

Advice

The opportunity to network is endless. Use your resources at DePaul and at your internships.

Risk Advisory Intern

June - August 2018 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

I enjoyed working with different technology clients, and having an internal look into their financials and operations. The work was plentiful for the external audiet, and I felt I was making a contribution towards reaching company goals.

What I wish was different

Depending on the client, some of the work and expectations were ambiguous, especially for interns. It would have been helpful to have clearer expectations for the work we were doing, and ways to ask for more work without feeling like you were bothering other staff.

Advice

Ask your manager and the other staff you are working with their preferred communication style from the beginning. Some prefer e-mail, instant messaging, or meeting in person briefly. It is necessary to know that from the start so you can get your questions answered, while still respecting the other person's time.

Assurance Intern

June - August 2018 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

I really liked the people I worked with. EY has a diverse workforce that were welcoming and supportive during my internship.

What I wish was different

I wish that the internship was a bit longer. This internship was around 8 weeks long.

Advice

Try to learn as much as you can, and don't be afraid to ask questions. Your team is there to help you and to prepare you for when you work full-time after college. Also enjoy the 8-week internship because it goes by so fast.

Transfer Pricing Intern

June - August 2018 • St. Louis, MO

What I liked

It was a challenging role in which I was trusted with work that actual transfer pricing staff do. The company is amazing and gave us traveling experience. We trained in Chicago,IL, at the beginning of the summer and at the end of summer there was a national intern conference in Orlando Florida, where we got to go to Disney for free as well. There were paid for lunches and happy hours, and overall it was an incredible experience.

What I wish was different

I had trouble with my superiors not giving me timely feedback so I didn't do as well as I could have if I had gotten that feedback.

Advice

It is a hard job, not a walk in the park. If you are working for EY you have to apply what you learned in school and keep up with a fast paced work, corporate environment.

What I wish was different

Probably more information about job/work expectations of specific roles and positions.

Advice

Be prepared to learn, be flexible, and work hard with passion.
